The Wedding Dress 👰🏽♀️
6 days to Flourish!!
Heey Sis,
I want to share a story about How God came through 5 years ago at a friend’s wedding.
I was the maid of honour at a friend’s wedding. It was their fifth anniversary yesterday (Happy Anniversary, Hun!!! I know you are reading this). The night before the wedding, my friend decided to try on her wedding dress, as any bride would, and I wanted to see her in it as well.
With the help of me and another bridesmaid, she got into the dress. When it was time to zip up, the zip refused to go past a certain point, so we tried for 45 minutes to an hour. At around 1 am, I could tell my friend was beginning to get tired, so I told her to go to bed. I wasn’t worried for some reason, and neither was she. She knew everything would be fine in the morning. God had kept things going this long, so why stop now?
While she was asleep, I was up with the dress because I needed to steam it. As I was steaming, I kept praying over the dress. I had about two hours of sleep before I had to wake up to wake the bride to get ready.
When it was time to wear the dress, I rushed off to wear my bridesmaid dress first so I could come and help put on the wedding dress. In my mind, I was praying, "God, please let everything be okay." When I got to the bride's room, I saw she was already dressed. She had the biggest smile on her face.
“Lamz, you won’t believe it; the zip went up in one go, no stress.”
I was like, wow, after all, we went through last night. The other bridesmaid who helped couldn’t believe it, too. I thanked God and carried on.
Worrying doesn’t do anything for me, but it causes more anxiety and pain. I should know. I was a worrier. I used to have a lot of anxiety. I worried so much at one point that I had a panic attack. I couldn’t breathe. Luckily, someone was home to help calm me down. I had to change my thinking. I value my peace so much and never let anything take that away.
There is no point worrying about something out of your control. The best thing is to pray about it and pray that whatever the outcome, you can handle it. God will always do what is best for us, even if that thing doesn’t make sense now.
Another bride might have had a breakdown knowing her dress wasn’t zipping the night before, but my friend had faith in God, so she went to sleep. Most times, that's all we need to do: pray, then go and rest. You can do nothing about something that is out of your control.
You can always do what you can but also learn to rest and trust that God has got you.
The event we are having next Saturday has occupied my mind since the beginning of the year, but more so these last few weeks, with planning and ensuring everything is good to go from creating content, flyers, and selling tickets ( we need to discuss why people do not like paying for Christian events, but that's a whole different conversation). I had to put my trust in God more than ever before. He gave me this to do, so He will be the one to sustain it and guide me through it. It is easy to start worrying, but you must keep reminding yourself who is backing you and His promises.
I can’t believe we are six days away from Flourish. I'm glad we're finally getting there. If you haven’t yet gotten your ticket, click the link here. Only a handful of tickets are left (no, this isn’t a marketing tactic). Thanks to donations, a couple of 2-for-1 tickets are available.
If you would like to support this vision, you can donate here. Thank you, and God bless.
