I understand why Sarah laughed 🤭
I had Bible study last week, and we were talking about Sarah. Before we started, we had to say something about Sarah, and the first thing I thought was, “I understand why Sarah laughed.”
If you are unfamiliar with the story of Sarah and Abraham, you can read Genesis chapters 12-23.
I understand why Sarah laughed. It was a genuine human reaction to what God was saying that she and Abraham were to have a son at their very old age, past the point where conceiving was deemed biologically impossible. Genesis 18:10-15
Let me be honest: I would have laughed as well and thought God is such a comedian. I have been prophesied to and have had several instances where God has told me something pertaining to my life purpose. Following these spoken words over my life in my head, I usually say to myself erm… I think you have the wrong person. This is because, most of the time, the words do not match my current reality.
Now, I know we are supposed to have unwavering faith and believe without doubt in God's words and power. However, my faith has wavered, especially over certain words that have been spoken over my life.
One thing in Sarah's story that stood out for me is that God didn't count her moment of unbelief against her. God isn't cruel. He is faithful to His word. 2 Timothy 2:13 When you have moments of unbelief or doubt, do not think God will punish you and start beating yourself up.
However, do not think remaining in that unbelief or doubt is okay. Even if your faith is low, you can still walk in obedience and keep building it.
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”- Matthew 17:20
Or you can be like the father of the demon-possessed boy and pray for God to help your unbelief. (Mark 9: 17-24).
“If You can?” echoed Jesus. “All things are possible to him who believes!” Immediately, the boy’s father cried out, “I do believe; help my unbelief!” (Mark 9:23-24).
