The 5 Love Languages of God - Words of Affirmation 🙌
How to expressively love God with all the five love languages
Heey Sis,
This is a new series I’m starting which might run till the end of the year. Can you believe there is only 8 Sundays left of 2023. Where has the year gone!! We thank God, He has kept us till now and we will finish this year strong. One way I want us to finish this year strong is growing in our love for God, in our desire and pursuit of Him. In the next coming weeks, we will explore how we can expressively love God using the five love languages (words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, physical touch, and quality time).
The love language for today is - words of affirmation.
Words of affirmation is about expressing affection and appreciation through words, be it spoken, written or both. The key to effectively using words of affirmation is to express them often and it could mean telling your partner or friend I love you or checking in on them throughout the day. It could mean expressing the importance of your relationship to your friend or partner.
To God it could mean expressing our gratitude and love towards Him. By doing so, this can lead to a more intimate relationship with Him because as we affirm Him, He draws nearer to us. If He is lifted up in our words and deeds, He will draw us nearer to Him (John 12:32). The way we use our words to affirm His goodness and kindness can pave the way for our freedom and redemption. For example: Paul and Silas praised (affirmed the person of God), chains were broken, and strong holds pulled down; the wall of Jericho fell down through praise, Elijah speaking to the dead bones to come to life.
Our words can serve as a sweet aroma to God when we give Him the accolades He so deserves. When we use words to affirm the character and attributes of God, it shows that we have a deep understanding of Him and want to be in relationship with Him. It shows how important we think of Him and want to please Him. All the praise glory and honour is His!!
May the words of our mouth and the meditations of our heart be pleasing in the sight of God (Psalm 19:14). This not only applies to our everyday speech but delves into the way we speak about and to God. He wants to hear us say we love Him - in actions and words as He has called us to love Him with all of our heart, mind, and body (Mark 12:30). He wants to hear us say thank you for redeeming me, because He did the painful thing of sacrificing His son for us. He wants to hear us say thank you God for you are mighty to save, because He is indeed mighty to save. He wants to hear us say you are such a great provider cause that’s what He is.
We as humans were created from Him (Let Us create man in our image - Genesis 1:26) with an innate desire to worship. Part of worship involves using our words to praise and exalt the thing that our hearts desire the most. And if our heart is to desire God, then we will continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name day in, day out (Hebrews 13:15-16)
Take a break in your day and spend some time affirming God through worship. As you do so may the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart be pleasing to God in Jesus name (Amen)
This was a preaching I found on this series that I thought would be a great supplement.
